On August 16, 2025, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated in and delivered remarks at the opening of the Afghan Grand Bazaar in Whitby, one of the flagship events marking the anniversary of Afghanistan’s restoration of independence.
Featuring traditional cuisine, music, art, handmade crafts, and a wide range of entrepreneurial and business products, the Bazaar offered a vibrant celebration of Afghan culture and commerce.
He highlighted the remarkable contributions of the Afghan diaspora across various sectors in Canada, noting that events like this not only honor cultural heritage but also celebrate the vital role Afghan diaspora, like many other diaspora communities, play in shaping Canada’s multicultural identity.
He further underscored the Bazaar’s role in showcasing the community’s potential to drive innovation, grow businesses, and strengthen trade ties between Canada and other nations.
He referred to Canada’s position as a global leader in promoting diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect and in that spirit, he expressed gratitude to the Government of Canada and the many friends of Afghanistan in Canada for their ongoing support, particularly for newcomers who are building new lives and enriching Canadian society with their resilience, talent, and hope.
He concluded by thanking the organizers for hosting such a meaningful event and expressed hope that similar initiatives will continue in the future.
