On June 18, 2026, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh attended the Dinner for Hope, an annual fundraising event organized by CFUW-Ottawa and University Women Helping Afghan Women to support education for young women in Afghanistan.
This year’s distinguished keynote speaker was Dr. Sima Samar, former Chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and a globally renowned human rights activist. In her keynote address, Dr. Samar spoke about the tragic and deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, with particular emphasis on the severe challenges facing women and girls under the current circumstances. She also reflected on the long-standing struggle of Afghan women for their rights, highlighting their resilience and aspirations for education, justice, and social progress throughout Afghanistan’s recent history. She underscored the importance of sustained international support for the rights and empowerment of Afghan women and girls.
