In a recent interview with the Canadian Press, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh discussed the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the recent devastating earthquake, continued violations of human rights including increasing restrictions on women and girls, media outlets and peaceful assemblies under the Taliban as well as the Canadian resettlement program for Afghanistan.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratefulness to Canada for its sustained support to the people of Afghanistan including through humanitarian aid and advocating for the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.
Ambassador Soroosh also thanked Canada as a world leader in refugee resettlement for initiating and expanding one of the largest resettlement programs at a global level for Afghanistan as well as for the ongoing discussions and efforts to further expedite the resettlement process in support of vulnerable Afghans.
