Earlier on X, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh wrote the following on the need for a long-term and comprehensive plan in response to multiple earthquakes in Herat, Afghanistan:

“Back-to-back earthquakes and aftershocks, the entirely flattened areas, a traumatized population living in tents, and unspeakable suffering. This is what daily life looks like in Herat, Afghanistan these days. The affected areas not only require emergency support including food, shelter, special care and medical supplies but also a long-term and comprehensive response plan that includes long-term recovery support for housing and livelihood.”
