On October 09, 2025, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh attended and delivered brief remarks at the opening night of the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) in Toronto, which featured Sima’s Song, a film directed by the renowned Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat.

Ambassador Soroosh expressed his appreciation to the IFFSA leadership for their commitment to showcasing South Asian stories and cinema to audiences across Canada. He acknowledged their important role in deepening public understanding of the region’s rich history, culture, and lived experiences.

He also offered heartfelt congratulations to Madam Roya Sadat, the talented cast, and all those involved in bringing Sima’s Song to life. He noted that their work is not only a reflection of outstanding artistic achievement but also a courageous act of storytelling that gives voice to those silenced, particularly under the Taliban regime.

Madam Roya Sadat was honored this year with the IFFSA Award for Sima’s Song.

We extend our warmest congratulations to her and her entire team on this well-deserved recognition.
