Ambassador Hassan Soroosh met with Mr. Jean-Bernard Parenteau, Acting Director-General, Canadian Partnerships for Health and Social Empowerment; Ms. Nathalie O’Neil, Director of Education and Social Empowerment; and Ms. Diane Harper, Executive Director at the South Asia Bureau, Global Affairs Canada. During the meeting, they discussed the ongoing projects and future programs in the area of health, education and women’s empowerment under both the country program for Afghanistan and the multi-country programs under the Partnerships for Development Innovation Branch. Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratitude for the continued support provided by Canada including to the above-mentioned areas in Afghanistan over the past 18 years and stressed, among other issues, the importance of access to education and health services for women, girls and people with disabilities. Ambassador Soroosh also highlighted in this context, the significance of utilizing innovative ways of financing including public-private partnerships.

Mr. Azim Wardak, Counselor and Ms. Shabana Kargar, Head of the Cultural and Social Affairs from the Embassy were also present in the meeting.

The two sides discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to human rights including the importance of women’s empowerment, human rights education and addressing the challenges facing the people with disabilities in Afghanistan. They also discussed the re-accreditation of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), improved capacity of reporting on human rights treaties in Afghanistan and future cooperation and exchange of experiences on human rights issues at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

Mr. Azim Wardak, Counselor and Ms. Shabana Kargar, Head of the Cultural and Social Affairs Section from the Embassy also attended the meeting.

OTTAWA - Ambassador-designate Hassan Soroosh met today with H.E. Kerim Uras, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Ottawa. They discussed various areas of cooperation between the two countries at all bilateral, regional and international levels. They further discussed the potential for triangular cooperation between Afghanistan, Turkey and Canada including in the area of trade and investment.

Mr. Azim Wardak, Counselor of the Afghan Embassy and Mr. Taylan Ozgur Aydin, Counselor from the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa were also present in the meeting.

OTTAWA - Mr. Hassan Soroosh presented his letter of credence to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada during a ceremony held on Friday, November 01, 2019 at the Rideau Hall, officially becoming the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Canada.

OTTAWA - Ambassador Hassan Soroosh visited the Canadian Museum of Nature.
He was received by Ms. Ailsa Barry, Vice President of the Museum. During the museum tour, they discussed future collaboration between the Museum and the relevant agencies in Afghanistan.

As part of the cultural diplomacy efforts, Ambassador Soroosh also met with Mr. Andre Picard, Executive Director of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), Mr. Sergeo Kirby and Mr. Ariel Nasr from the Loaded Pictures and other colleagues from the NFB. They discussed the screening of the Forbidden Reel, a new documentary produced by the Loaded Pictures and NFB which is about the efforts made to create and preserve the film industry in Afghanistan over the past few decades.

Mr. Sayed Mujtaba Ahmadi, Deputy Chief of Mission; Ms. Shabana Kargar, Head of the Cultural Affairs Section as well as Mr. Rafi Ferdow and Mr. Khalid Khosraw from the Office of Ambassador and the Public Relations Section also attended this program.

OTTAWA - Ambassador Hassan Soroosh met with H.E. Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Canada. They discussed bilateral relations as well as the potential for trilateral cooperation between Afghanistan, UAE and Canada including in the area of trade and investment. They further discussed the Afghan Peace Carpet Exhibit which is scheduled to take place from November 18-26, 2019 at the Canadian Museum of War under the UAE’s FBMI Afghan Peace Carpet Initiative.

Mr. Hakim Nasiry, Commercial Attaché of the Afghan Embassy and Mr. Mohamed Al Shamsi, Second Secretary of the UAE Embassy were also present in the meeting.

OTTAWA - Ambassador Hassan Soroosh joined this morning other Heads of Mission in Ottawa in the National Remembrance Day Ceremony and placed a wreath on behalf of Afghanistan and in honor of the Fallen.
On this occasion, we pay tribute to all those men and women from the Canadian Armed Forces who fought shoulder to shoulder with the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, democracy and prosperity in Afghanistan and the wider world. We highly value our partnership with Canada which is based on strong bonds of friendship and shared values and remain grateful for Canada’s continued support to Afghanistan.

 

OTTAWA - Ambassador Hassan Soroosh met with Ambassador Sakhi Ghairat and some members of the Afghan community at the Afghan Embassy in Ottawa. They discussed cultural and academic exchanges as well as trade and investment between Afghanistan and Canada and stressed the importance of joint cultural and academic activities in Canada in the future.
