How to apply?
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa authenticates those official documents that were issued by the official authorities in Afghanistan. Please make sure that you have all documents available before depositing service fee to the Embassy’s bank account. The Embassy cannot return the service fee to the applicants, if their supporting documents are not complete. Applications for authentication of documents to be delivered in person. Application forms must be accompanied by the original form of the document which requires authentication.
Checklist of requirements
All applicants, whether applying by post or in person, must submit the following items as part of their application:
- 1. Fill out the Authentication of Document Form – fully completed and signed.
2. The original document to be authenticated.
3. Photocopy of document verifying your legal status in Canada, such as passport, PR card, etc.
4. Documents verifying your current address, such as driving license, utility bills or similar documents.
5. Authentication of document fee. See below for payment method.
6. Applicants can choose to provide a registered, self-addressed return envelope instead of paying the postage cost.

• All payments must cover the total amount that is payable to the general, including the relevant fee, bank charge and any postal cost, if applicable. The payment must be received by the Embassy together with your application form before any assessment take place.

Applications will be processed in order of their receipt by the Consular Section. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing necessary documentation will not be processed.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESSING TIME
Please note that applicants must contact the Consular Section in advance to book an interview appointment.
At the appointed time, applicants must bring all the necessary requirements with them.
Applicants for Authentication of Celibacy must submit the following:
- Applicants for Authentication of Celibacy must submit the following:
1. Authentication of Celibacy Form – fully completed and signed;
2. Three male adult persons of Afghan origin to confess (Eqrar) the celibacy. The confesses must each bring along two recent photos and documents verifying their identity (Afghan Tazkira) and their current address;
3. Two male adult persons of Afghan origin to act as witnesses the Eqrar of confesses. The witnesses must each bring along two recent photos and documents verifying their identity (Afghan Tazkira) and their current address;
In addition, all applicants, must also provide the following:
1. Two photos (1 X 1 inches) affixed to the appropriate box in the application form. Photos must be taken directly off the face and show both ears. Photo Specifications
2. Original document verifying applicant’s Afghan identity (Afghan Tazkira);
3. Documents verifying the applicant’s current residency status in Canada, such as PR card, citizenship document, landed immigrant document, etc;
4. Documents verifying the applicant’s current address, such as driving license, utility bills or similar documents;
5. The relevant issuing fee (see the fees table below)
6. Self-addressed return envelope.
PROCESSING FEES AND PAYMENT METHOD
• All consular charges are only payable in USD. Payment in any other currency will NOT be accepted.

CERTIFICATE OF INHERITANCE
- General Information
The Consular Section issues inheritance registration certificate to Afghan citizens residing in and apply from Canada and the United States. Applications for inheritance registration must be submitted in person.
Applicants must contact the Consular Section in advance to book an appointment. During the appointment, the applicant must bring all the necessary documents. The Consul will conduct an interview which may last one to two hours. In some cases, the applicant will be asked to return on a specific date and time.
Inheritance Registration Requirements
Appointment. Applicant’s must book an appointment online. Clients without appointment will not be allowed in and served.
Visit In-person. The applicant(s) and ALL the witnesses MUST be present at the Embassy on the date and time of the appointment along with the application form and required documents.
Application Form. Clients should fill the applications in Dari or Pashto carefully. Special attention to names spelling, dates, figures and places is required.
Required Documents and witnesses. Please read the information below carefully and prepare for your appointment accordingly. The following persons and documents MUST be present in the Embassy during your appointment.
I). Inheritor(s) (Waris/Warasa): at least ONE inheritor (waris) MUST be present at the Embassy at the time of appointment along with (1) one copy of his/her/their Tazkira or passport and two recently taken Photo Size (1x1).
II). Assertors (Iqrar Konendagan): Three adult assertors (Iqrar Konendagan) MUST accompany the Inheritor(s) at the Embassy during the appointment along with (1) one copy of original Tazkira or passport of each assertor; and two recently taken Photo size (1x1).
III). Witnesses: Two Afghan male adult witnesses or four Afghan female adults if male witnesses are not available, MUST also accompany the inheritor(s), with their (a) copies of passport (Afghan and Canada), or Tazkira; (2) copies of driver license; (3) Two Recently Taken Photo Size (1x1).
Fees and Method of Payment. An applicant should pay USD126 for ONE Certificate of Inheritance by direct deposit to Embassy's bank account and its non refundable. The Embassy does NOT accept cash or cheque under any circumstances.

Transfer of Deceased to Afghanistan
In the event of an Afghan citizen passes away in Canada, and the family wishes to transfer the deceased to Afghanistan, the Embassy issues a support letter and seeks the cooperation of the relevant authorities during the transferring process, which include the transit countries and airports in Afghanistan.
If requested by the authorities in Canada, similar support letter will also be issued by this Embassy for transferring an Afghan deceased without heirs, only to ensure a smooth transferring process.
Checklist of requirements
1. Appointment. There is NO need for an appointment. The heirs can visit or contact the Embassy.
2. Email. The relevant authorities in Canada shall send an email to the Consular at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and request for a support letter and,
if applicable, mention the names(s) of person(s) planning to travel to Afghanistan during the transfer of the deceased. The email should contain the required documents
as attachments.
3. Required Documents:
a) Passport copy or photocopy of document verifying deceased legal status in Canada, such as, PR card, driving license etc. of the deceased person.
b) Death Registration Statement (death certificate issued by the Canadian authorities).
c) Death Certificate. Contain information about (1) the deceased, (2) his/her parents, children and former spouse, (3) cause of death and medical condition,
(4) name, address and relationship of the informant.
d) Certificate from Local Health District. This certifies that the transfer of the deceased is unlikely to pose any health risks for humans and countries.
4. Fee. The Embassy does NOT charge for this service. Unless postage services required, which the Embassy will charge the postal services.
5. Procedure. Once the Embassy receives the email along with the required document, as illustrated above, a support letter will be issued on the same day.
The Embassy sends the scan copy of the letter by a return email, or to the client relatives.

Marriage Certiciate
How to apply?
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa issues marriage certificate only to those Afghan citizens who are residing in Canada or the United States. Please make sure that you have all documents available before depositing service fee to the Embassy’s bank account. The Embassy cannot return the service non-refundable fee to the applicants, if their supporting documents are not complete. Applications for authentication of documents can be made only in person and the application forms must be accompanied by the original documents.
Checklist of requirements
All applicants, whether applying by post or in person, must submit the following items as part of their application:
- The Embassy issues a Marriage Certificate (زوجیت خط) for already married couples, who live in Canada and the United States. Both husband and wife MUST be present at the Embassy at the time of appointment along with FIVE adult witnesses/assertors.
Please read the following information and instructions carefully:
Appointment. Applicants MUST book an appointment online prior to coming to the Embassy. Clients with no prior appointments will not be served.
Visit In-person. Both husband and wife and FIVE adult witnesses MUST be present at the Embassy at the time of appointment along with a request letter and required documents.
Request Letter. A request letter outlining the purpose, date and place of marriage should be submitted to the Embassy at the time of appointment.
Marriage Certificate Form (فورم زوجیت خط). This form needs to be completed in the Embassy. It can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.
Required Documents and Witnesses (Iqrar kunendagan and Shahedaan). Please read the information below carefully and prepare for your appointment accordingly.
The following persons and documents MUST be present at the Embassy during your appointment.
A. Proof of Identity. (1) One copy of Tazkira or Passport of both applicants; (2) one copy of Tazkira or passport (Afghan or Canadian) of each assertor and witness; and (3) one copy of driver license of the applicants and assertors/witnesses.
B. Photographs. (1) Two recent photographs (size: 2x2 ) of both applicants; (2) two recent photographs of each witness/assertor.
C. Assertors (Iqrar Konendagan): THREE adult assertors should be present at the time of appointment along with the applicants. All three assertors should have their proof of identities, address and photographs ready as stated in paragraph A and B.
D. Witnesses (Shahedaan): in addition to 3 assertors, 2 adult witnesses should be present at the time of appointment along with the applicants. Both witnesses should have their proof of identities and photographs ready as stated in paragraph A and B.
Fee: An applicant should pay USD 126 non refundable fee for ONE application direct deposit to the Embassy's bank account for IQRAR KHAT and for USD 55 for Marriage certificate. The Embassy does NOT accept cash under any circumstances.
Procedure. Once the applicants visit the Embassy at the time of their appointment, identities and documents will be checked at the front disk. If all the required documents are complete and both husband and wife and 5 adult witnesses/assertors are present, the process of producing a Marriage Certificate begins. The Marriage Certificate will be ready and given to the applicants on the same day.
Notes: For One Marriage Certificate, SEVEN adults are required at the Embassy (Husband and Wife + THREE Assertors + TWO Witnesses)
Note: please bring along all necessary documents and photographs at the time of your appointment. The Embassy does not have printing and copying facilities for its clients.
