Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke at a webinar organized by the Women and Children Research and Advocacy Network (WCRAN)

OTTAWA: SEPTEMBER 18, 2025:
This morning, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke at a webinar organized by the Women and Children Research and Advocacy Network (WCRAN), which aimed to present the findings of its new study, 'The Consequences of the Education Ban on Schoolgirls in Afghanistan” along with its recommendations for a wide range of relevant stakeholders.
Ambassador Soroosh thanked WCRAN for their continued research activities and advocacy efforts in support of Afghan women and girls.
Ambassador Soroosh emphasized that addressing the situation of Afghan women and girls, as highlighted in WCRAN’s report, requires decisive and coordinated international action. This includes sustained advocacy, enhanced monitoring mechanisms, stronger accountability measures, and increased diplomatic pressure on the Taliban, all within a new and holistic approach.
He also stressed the need for increased international support in key areas identified in the report, including alternative education models, women-led initiatives, and mental health and protection services.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratitude to the Government of Canada for a principled and human rights-centered approach to Afghanistan, as well as for all the previous and ongoing resettlement, humanitarian, and advocacy support extended to the people of Afghanistan particularly women and girls.
