Ambassador Soroosh Meets Co-Chair of the Canada-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh had a virtual meeting with the Honorable Senator Salma Attaullahjan, Co-Chair of the Canada-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (CAPFG). They discussed the recent developments in Afghanistan, the ongoing peace process and the COVID-19 situation in Afghanistan.
Ambassador Soroosh spoke about a massive brutal campaign of violence waged by the Taliban and foreign terrorist groups against Afghanistan resulting in a high number of casualties and displacements among civilians including women and children; violation of human rights, a dire humanitarian situation and huge damages to public properties and infrastructure by the Taliban.
Ambassador Soroosh stressed the importance of multifaceted support to the Afghanistan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) and continued collective efforts in the fight against terrorism as a regional and global threat. Ambassador Soroosh also provided an update on the Afghan peace process as well as the COVID-19 situation in Afghanistan.
The Honorable Senator Attaullahjan expressed concern over the escalation of violence, human rights violation including with respect women as well as destruction of properties and infrastructure by the Taliban.
She highlighted the commitment of the Canada-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (CAPFG) to continued collaboration in support of Afghanistan.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratefulness for Canada’s sustained support to peace and development in Afghanistan as well as for the continued commitment of CAPFG in support of Afghanistan and multifaceted partnership between Afghanistan and Canada.
