“Conference on Afghanistan: Changing the Approach and Reversing the Trajectory”

OTTAWA: On September 18, 2024, the “Conference on Afghanistan: Changing the Approach and Reversing the Trajectory” was organized by the Center for International Policy Studies (CIPS), University of Ottawa in collaboration with the Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa.

The conference brought together Afghan, Canadian and international experts who discussed various aspects of the current situation in Afghanistan as well as the need for a renewed and integrated international approach to Afghanistan. The Conference included three panel discussions around key topics of humanitarian crisis, human rights situation, political process and counterterrorism.

The opening session included Introductory Remarks by Dr. Faramarz Tamanna, Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate at CIPS; opening remarks by Professor Alexandra Gheciu, CIPS Director, and Ambassador Hassan Soroosh, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada followed by a keynote speech by Hon. Pam Damoff, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
