Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated in an event titled “From Kabul to Ottawa: Global Solidarity to End Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan,” co-hosted in Parliament by the Women and Children Research and Advocacy Network (AWCRN) along with several friends of Afghanistan in the House and Senate.
Ambassador Soroosh, along with other speakers, addressed various aspects of the current tragic situation facing women and girls in Afghanistan. They called for stronger accountability measures and effective collective action to end gender apartheid, as well as for ensuring women’s meaningful participation in all processes and platforms that have an impact on their lives and the future of Afghanistan.
The event also featured the presentation of the network’s latest research on the situation of women in Afghanistan, with a focus on the impact of the Taliban’s imposed restrictions on the daily lives of women and girls in the country.
As part of the program, an award ceremony was also held to honor a number of long-standing friends of Afghanistan in Canada and around the world, recognizing their sustained commitment and continued efforts in support of Afghan women and girls.
