From the cricket pitches to the football fields as well as martial arts, sports have played a critical role in connecting our fellow Afghans with one another. Today on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, we recognize the achievements of our athletes and sport teams, especially Afghan girls, who continue to inspire the world including with their efforts and achievements in the sport fields. We further recognize the role that sports play in uniting people all around the world.

Sports offer an opportunity for participants to work together as a team, enable inclusion and promote healthy living. Although the pandemic has made it difficult for this to happen, staying active in your home can help improve our personal wellbeing. By remaining vigilant in protecting ourselves and others around us during these difficult times, we can make sure that we are soon able to come together again to watch or participate in our favourite sports.
