An ongoing special virtual walk entitled “Walking to Kabul” organized by the CFUW-Ottawa is raising awareness about the rights of Afghan women and girls in the ongoing peace process. Participants are walking, running, skiing and cycling the total distance that it would take to get from Ottawa to Kabul which is expected to be reached on the 24th of April when an international virtual gathering will take place with three leading Afghan women.
 
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa welcomes and appreciates this initiative in support of Afghan women by our Canadian friends. The Government of Afghanistan is firmly committed to upholding the progress achieved over the last twenty years including in the areas of women’s rights and women’s empowerment in Afghanistan and to further empowering Afghan women and girls.

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated at a virtual Nowruz celebration event organized by the Afghan Women’s Center of Montreal (AWCM). While sharing his best wishes on the New Year, Ambassador Soroosh briefly spoke about the spirit of Nowruz, the ongoing peace and development efforts in Afghanistan as well as bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Canada.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratitude for the sustained support of the Canadian government, friends of Afghanistan and the Afghan-Canadian community to peace and development efforts in Afghanistan. He also expressed his gratefulness for AWCM’s continued efforts including in the area of women’s empowerment.
Other speakers included the Honorable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Women, Gender Equality, and Rural Economic Development; Ms. Makai Arif, President of AWCM as well as representatives from the Afghan-Canadian community based in Montreal..

The Opening Ceremony of the Canada-Afghanistan Association of Health Professionals (CAAHP) was held virtually this morning.
The event included a message by Hon. Maryam Monsef, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Rural and Economic Development, and remarks by Ambassador Hassan Soroosh; Dr. Karim Qayumi, Chairman of CAAHP; Hon. Senator Salma Ataullahjan and Hon. MP Francesco Sorbara, Co-Chairs of the Afghan-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group; Dr. G. Mahmoud Eboo, Diplomatic Representative for Canada, Aga Khan Development Network; Dr. Nasrin Oryakhil, Director General, Afghanistan Medical Council; Dr. Yarbaz Hameedi, Secretariat of Health Committee, Afghanistan Parliament; Dr. Susan Moffatt-Bruce, CEO, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; Ms. Madeleine Sourisseau, Senior Development Officer, Afghanistan Program - Global Affairs Canada; Mr. Wajid Mansuri, Founder and President of GAMA Engineering; Mrs. Adeena Niazi, Founder and Executive Director, Afghan Women's Organization; and Mr. Aziz Amiri, President, Canada Afghan Business Association.
While expressing their congratulations on the establishment of CAAHP as a timely initiative, the speakers highlighted the importance of such initiatives in enhancing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the health sector in Afghanistan.
CAAHP’s mission is to help build a united front of Afghan Canadian health professionals including individuals, organizations and businesses in the healthcare sector and facilitate resource mobilization in support of health-related projects in Afghanistan.
Mr. Azim Wardak, Counselor of the Embassy of Afghanistan also attended this virtual event.
 
انجمن متخصصین صحی کانادا-افغانستان امروز طی یک برنامه مجازی عالیرتبه افتتاح شد. این برنامه، شامل پیام خانم مریم منصف، وزیر امور زنان، تساوی جندر و انکشاف اقتصادی دهات؛ و سخنرانی ها توسط آقای حسن سروش، سفیر افغانستان در اوتاوا؛ داکتر کریم قیومی، رئیس انجمن؛ رؤسای مشترک گروه دوستی پارلمانی کانادا-افغانستان؛ سفیر شبکه انکشافی آقاخان در اوتاوا؛ داکتر نسرین اوریاخیل، رئیس شورای طبی افغانستان؛ داکتر یارباز حمیدی از کمیته صحی پارلمان افغانستان؛ رئیس رویال کالج طبی کانادا؛ نماینده وزارت امورخارجه کانادا و رؤسای برخی از نهادهای هموطنان مقیم کانادا بود.
سخنرانان ضمن ابراز تبریک به مسئولین این انجمن بخاطر این ابتکار به موقع و مهم، بر اهمیت همچون ابتکارات در زمینه گسترش همکاری های دوجانبه و چندجانبه در حمایت از سکتور صحت عامه در افغانستان تأکید نمودند.
هدف انجمن متخصصین صحی کانادا-افغانستان کمک به ایجاد یک چارچوب واحد سهم گیری و همکاری برای متخصصین صحی افغان-کانادایی و تسهیل روند بسیج منابع در حمایت از پروژه های مختلف در سکتور صحت عامه در افغانستان می باشد.
آقای عظیم وردک، مستشار سفارت افغانستان در اوتاوا نیز در این برنامه اشتراک داشت.

 Mr. Azim Wardak, Counselor from the Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa participated at the first Virtual 2021 Expo of International Afghan Real Estate Alliance (iArea) based in Toronto, Canada. The event included introductory remarks by iArea co-founders, Mr. Jamshid Hussaini and Mr. Rasheed Walizada, a message from the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Canada as well as panel discussions with speakers and experts including from the Canada-Afghanistan Business Council, International Chamber of Commerce, Afghanistan and the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC).

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated and spoke today at the virtual Nowruz celebration event organized by the Children Without Borders (CWB). Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the spirit of Nowruz and Nowruz celebration in Afghanistan; the ongoing peace process in Afghanistan and the key principles of the process as well as bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Canada.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratefulness for Canada’s sustained support to peace and development in Afghanistan. He also expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts of friends of Afghanistan within the Canadian parliament, and those of the Afghan-Canadian community and CWB in advocating for peace and development efforts in Afghanistan.
Other speakers included Hon. Mark Holland, MP of Ajax; Hon. Rod Phillips, MPP of Ajax; H.W. Mayor of Ajax, Mr. Shaun Collier as well as representatives from the Afghan-Canadian associations based in Toronto.
Mr. Nabi Habibi, from the Cultural Section of the Embassy also participated in this virtual event.

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh had a virtual introductory meeting with the Honorable Kelvin Goertzen, Deputy Premier, Minister of Legislative and Public Affairs and Government House Leader of Manitoba. They discussed the COVID-19 situation in Canada and Afghanistan; the ongoing multifaceted bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Canada as well as potential areas of collaboration between Afghanistan and Manitoba including in the agriculture and mining sectors.
 
Mr. Brad Robertson, Chief of Protocol of Manitoba and Counselor Azim Wardak from the Embassy of Afghanistan also attended this virtual meeting.

 Ambassador Hassan Soroosh met virtually with H.E. Kallayana Vipattipumiprates, Ambassador of Thailand to Canada. They discussed COVID-19 situation, bilateral cooperation, the potential for triangular cooperation between Afghanistan, Thailand and Canada as well as future collaboration between the two missions.

 

Ottawa- March 10, 2021

A virtual session entitled “Afghanistan: Investment opportunities in the extractive industry” was hosted today by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan (MoMP) as part of PDAC 2021.

The event included introductory remarks by Ambassador Hassan Soroosh; a keynote speech by Minister Mohmmad Haron Chakhansuri of MoMP; presentations by Deputy Minister Mohammad Ateeq Zaki of MoMP; Mr. Attaullah Nasib, Director General of Afghanistan Investment Facilitation Unit; Mr. Kabir Khan Isakhel, Chief Legal Advisor to the President as well as a message from Dr. Andrew Forrest, Chairman of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. 

The session presented the roadmap to develop a sustainable extractive industry in Afghanistan, bankable investment projects and opportunities as well as the legal framework for the extractive industry in the country.

The Q&A session was moderated by Counselor Azim Wardak from the Embassy of Afghanistan.

Ottawa- March 9, 2021

The U.S. State Department awarded posthumously seven Afghan women who were assassinated by terrorists in 2020. Fatema Natasha Khalil, General Sharmila Frough, Maryam Noorzad, Fatima Rajabi¸ Freshta, Malalai Maiwand, Freshta Kohistani are recognized for their dedication to women's empowerment and serving their communities in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, Ms. Habiba Sarabi, a former minister and governor and a member of Afghanistan's Peace Delegation, was awarded the Simone Veil Prize by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of France. She was recognized for her leadership in implementing reforms to advance women's education and social and political participation in Afghanistan.

We express our heartful congratulations to Ms. Sarabi on this achievement. We also pay tribute to all victims of the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.
