Earlier on X, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh wrote the following on the devastating earthquake in Herat, Afghanistan:

"A devastating earthquake has killed and injured hundreds of people in Herat, Afghanistan worsening an already dire humanitarian situation in the affected areas. While the full impact is being assessed, medical supplies, emergency shelter and food assistance are urgently needed."

OTTAWA: OCTOBER 6, 2023 Ambassador Hassan Soroosh received recently H.E. Ambassador-Designate Pham Vinh Quang of Vietnam to Canada and discussed issues of mutual interest, collaboration between the two missions and activities within the Asia Pacific Group.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Consular Section in Ottawa will be closed on Monday October 9, 2023, on the occasion of the Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

OTTAWA: SEPTEMBER 8, 2023

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke today in the opening session of a hybrid event “Global Alliance in Support of Afghanistan women” which was organized by the Women & Children Research and Advocacy Network (WCRAN) in Mississauga, Canada.

Ambassador Soroosh thanked WCRAN for developing the roadmap and presenting an important set of policy options and recommendations in support of Afghan women and girls.

Ambassador Soroosh highlighted, among other priorities, the importance of 1) forming an effective global alliance under a proactive and unified approach in support of women and girls, 2) recognizing the situation in Afghanistan as gender apartheid, 3) greater resettlement support particularly for Afghan women’s rights defenders, 4) greater support for sustaining the work of women’s rights activists and women-led initiatives both inside and outside of Afghanistan, and 5) the need to enhance the scale and efficiency of humanitarian assistance.

Ambassador Soroosh thanked Canada other international partners for continued humanitarian and resettlement support and for keeping the situation of women and girls high on their agenda. He also expressed his gratefulness to the Afghan diaspora community and friends of Afghanistan around the world for their sustained commitment and engagement in support of Afghan women and girls.

On August 25, 2023, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh spoke through a video message at an event which was organized by the Afghan Network for Social Services (ANSS) in Toronto to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the restoration of Afghanistan’s independence.

The event was attended by a large number of participants from the Afghan diaspora community, government of Canada, Canadian parliament and friends of Afghanistan in Canada.

Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the importance of the occasion and thanked ANSS and other social, cultural, and professional associations within the diaspora community for their continued efforts in support of the people of Afghanistan and the newcomers to Canada.

Ambassador Soroosh also thanked the government of Canada and friends of Afghanistan in Canada for their sustained commitment and efforts in support of the vulnerable people in Afghanistan particularly the courageous Afghan women and girls.

OTTAWA: On Saturday, August 19, 2023, at a ceremony hosted by the Embassy of Afghanistan and attended by the Afghan diaspora community, the national flag of Afghanistan was raised at the Ottawa City Hall honoring the 104th anniversary of the restoration of Afghanistan’s independence. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Embassy of Afghanistan where Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the importance of the occasion and thanked the social, cultural, and professional associations as well as groups of volunteers within the diaspora community for their continued efforts in support of the people of Afghanistan and the newcomers to Canada. Ambassador Soroosh stressed the importance of collective advocacy efforts in support of vulnerable people in Afghanistan particularly women and girls during this difficult time in Afghanistan.

Ms. Shabnam Salehi, former Commissioner of the Independent Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan and women’s rights activists in Ottawa also spoke about the occasion and the significance of the ongoing collective activities within the Afghan diaspora community and highlighted the need for continuous advocacy efforts in support of the people of Afghanistan including the courageous Afghan women and girls.

The event was moderated by Mr. Azim Wardak, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa.

به تاریخ 19 اگست 2023، در مراسمی که به میزبانی سفارت افغانستان در اوتاوا و با اشتراک تعداد زیادی از هموطنان مقیم کانادا برگزار شد، بیرق افغانستان به افتخار 104مین سالروز استرداد استقلال افغانستان در صحن شهر داری اوتاوا برافراشته شد. ـ

همچنین به تعقیب آن محفلی به این مناسبت در سفارت افغانستان با حضور اشتراک کنندگان در این مراسم برگزار شد.ـ

سفیر افغانستان ضمن صحبت راجع به این مناسبت، از نهادهای اجتماعی، فرهنگی و تخصصی و همچنین گروه های داوطلب در جامعه دیاسپورای افغانستان بخاطر تلاش های مستمر شان در حمایت از مردم افغانستان و کمک به رسیدگی به نیازهای هموطنانی که اخیرا به کانادا مهاجرت نموده اند ابراز امتنان نمود.ـ

سفیر افغانستان بر اهمیت تداوم تلاش های جمعی دادخواهی و ضرورت هماهنگی و انسجام بیشتر فعالیت ها و تلاش ها تأکید نمود. ـ

خانم شبنم صالحی، کمیشنر سابق کمیسیون حقوق بشر افغانستان و فعال حقوق بشر در کانادا نیز در این محفل راجع به سالروز استرداد استقلال افغانستان و اهمیت انسجام فعالیت ها و تداوم تلاش های جمعی دادخواهی در جامعه دیاسپورای افغانستان در حمایت از مردم افغانستان و زنان و دختران شجاع افغانستان صحبت نمود. ـ

این برنامه توسط آقای عظیم وردک، معاون سفارت افغانستان در اوتاوا گردانندگی شد. ـ

مېرمن شبنم صالحي، د افغانستان د بشري حقونو د کمیسیون پخوانۍ کمېشنره او په کاناډا کې د بشري حقونو فعالې په دغه محفل کې د افغانستان د خپلواکۍ د بېرته ترلاسه کولو د کلیزې په اهمیت او د افغانستان د خلکو، ښځو او زړورو نجونو څخه د ملاتړ په موخه د افغان ډیاسپورا ټولنې په ګډو هلو ځلو خبرې وکړې. ـ
