Ambassador Hassan Soroosh participated and spoke virtually in an event which was organized by the Afghan Women’s Center of Montreal at the Concordia University on the occasion of International Women’s Day
Ambassador Soroosh spoke about the current tragic situation of women and girls in the country. He stated that Afghan women and girls continue to suffer the brunt of the current multifaced crisis in Afghanistan as every aspect of their lives has been restricted by a hostile approach and by some of the most repressive and discriminatory policies, directives, edicts, and practices that aim to push them out of public life.
Ambassador Soroosh stressed the need for an effective global alliance and a proactive and unified approach at a global level, one that includes effective joint messaging, strong policy responses and visible collective actions in support of women and girls including structured engagement with civil society activists and women’s rights defenders.
Ambassador Soroosh expressed his gratefulness to Canada for the previous and ongoing humanitarian, advocacy and resettlement efforts in support of Afghan women and girls. He also extended his gratitude for the work of Afghan Women’s Center of Montreal and other Afghan, Canadian and international partners in support of Afghan women and newcomers from Afghanistan.

As rightly mentioned in the statement “The Taliban are responsible for one of the most dire and appalling human rights situation worldwide. By eliminating half of the Afghan population from public life and political decision making, they put the very future of Afghanistan into jeopardy.”
