On this Canada Day 2026, on behalf of my family and our staff, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to all Canadians, both at home and around the world.

While Canada Day is a celebration of the values that define Canada including freedom, democracy, diversity, inclusion, and respect for human dignity, it is also an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the enduring bonds of friendship between the peoples of Afghanistan and Canada. This occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the shared sacrifices and collective efforts of the brave women and men of both nations in advancing peace, security, and the values that unite us.

We remain grateful for Canada's continued humanitarian assistance, resettlement efforts, and steadfast advocacy for the people of Afghanistan, particularly Afghan women and girls who continue to endure unimaginable hardship under Taliban rule. Canada's leadership has provided hope and inspiration to those who continue to stand for justice, equality, human rights, and freedom despite extraordinary adversity.

We also express our deep appreciation for the invaluable contributions of the Afghan-Canadian community and the many friends of Afghanistan across Canada. Your advocacy, engagement, and solidarity continue to amplify the voices and aspirations of the Afghan people while strengthening the enduring ties between our two countries.

Canada's consistent engagement with Afghan human rights defenders, women's rights advocates, civil society organizations, and diaspora leaders has played an indispensable role in sustaining hope for a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic Afghanistan. These efforts exemplify Canada's longstanding commitment to defending universal human rights and promoting international cooperation in the face of complex global challenges.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to working closely with the Government of Canada, Canadian institutions, the Afghan-Canadian community, friends of Afghanistan, and our international partners to advance our shared vision of peace, human rights, democratic governance, and sustainable development. Together, we will continue to support efforts to build a just, representative, secure, and prosperous future for the people of Afghanistan.
