Ottawa: On January 24, 2026, an event was co-hosted at Carleton University by the University Women Helping Afghan Women (UWHAW), the Right to Learn Afghanistan, and the Carleton University Afghan Students’ Association to commemorate the International Day of Education and to express solidarity with Afghan women and girls. The gathering brought together diplomats, advocates, students, and members of the academic community to highlight the urgent educational and human rights crisis facing women and girls in Afghanistan.
به تاریخ 15 مارچ 2026، مراسم گرامیداشت سی ویکمین سالگرد شهادت شهید وحدت ملی افغانستان، استاد عبدالعلی مزاری توسط جمعی از هموطنان مقیم اوتاوا برگزار شد.
محترم حسن سروش، سفیر افغانستان در کانادا در این مراسم در کنار سایر سخنرانان، بر اهمیت معرفی شخصیت های تأثیرگذارملی از جمله شهید مزاری به نسل جوان به عنوان یک مسئولیت مشترک تأکید نمود.
سفیر افغانستان ضمن تشریح بحران چند وجهی موجود در افغانستان تحت تسلط طالبان،راجع به ضرورت ترویج یک روایت مشترک ملی مبتنی بر عدالت اجتماعی، مردم سالاری، وحدت ملی، توسعه همه جانبه و حقوق زنان برای افغانستان تأکید نمود.
سفیر افغانستان اظهار داشت که چنین اصول و ارزشهایی در دیدگاه ها و اندیشه هایی شخصیت هایی همچون شهید مزاری متبارز بوده است و تلاشهای دادخواهی جاری برای افغانستان نیز بر چنین ارزشهایی استوار است.
سفیر افغانستان اظهار امیدواری نمود که تلاش های مشترک دادخواهی هموطنان ما با اتکا به یک روایت مشترک ملی برای آینده افغانستان، منسجم تر و گسترده شود.

Ambassador Hassan Soroosh hosted recently a dinner bringing together a distinguished group of friends of Afghanistan, respected scholars, and dedicated community activists.
The evening was a meaningful opportunity to express heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering support, partnership, and active collaboration, from impactful research and advocacy to tireless diplomatic efforts, all in steadfast support of the people of Afghanistan, especially women and girls, and in defense of our shared values.
Ambassador Soroosh also extended his gratitude to the Government of Canada for its long-standing partnership with the people of Afghanistan and for its principled global leadership in keeping human rights at the forefront of the international agenda.
On January 29, 2026, Ambassador Hassan Soroosh addressed an event at Parliament co-organized by the Afghan Women Parliamentarians and Leaders Network (AWPLN) and Members of Parliament of Canada.
The event entitled "Afghanistan in Reverse: A Human Story of Broken Hopes and Stalled Development" brought together senior officials from the Government of Canada, Members of Parliament, women’s rights advocates, friends of Afghanistan, and members of the Afghan diaspora community.
In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted the multifaceted crisis facing Afghanistan under Taliban rule, the escalating restrictions on Afghan women and girls, and the ongoing manifestations of gender apartheid. He also addressed the Taliban’s recently announced criminal procedure code and its far-reaching implications for Afghan society.
He emphasized that responding to Afghanistan’s crisis requires a holistic and integrated approach that recognizes the deep interconnections between humanitarian needs, human rights, political legitimacy, economic stability, and security.
The Ambassador expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Canada and to friends of Afghanistan across the country for their continued principled engagement and unwavering support for the people of Afghanistan particularly women and girls. He underscored that the role of Canada, alongside other like-minded countries, remains vital in shaping a unified and people-centered international approach to Afghanistan.
Ambassador Soroosh also hosted a breakfast meeting at the Embassy in honor of AWPLN leadership and members.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Ottawa and its Consular Section will be closed on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 on the occasion of the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Embassy’s working hours during the Holy Month of Raman will be from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Ambassador Hassan Soroosh, along with other distinguished speakers, addressed the multiple dimensions of gender apartheid in Afghanistan, with particular emphasis on the increasingly severe restrictions imposed on girls’ access to education, underscoring their profound and long-term consequences on the lives of women and girls, as well as on the social, economic, and political future of the country as a whole.
The speakers further stressed the critical importance of sustained collective action by the international community, including the need for stronger accountability mechanisms and increased support for women-led initiatives. Special attention was given to the role of online and alternative education programs as vital lifelines for girls in Afghanistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador Soroosh expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Canada and to friends of Afghanistan across the country for their continued commitment and principled engagement in support of Afghan women and girls.
